Final Cut Pro X Drop-Zone Lesson – Applying Clips and Photos to Drop-Zones in FCPX – Pixel Film Studios Tutorials

Welcome to another Final Cut Pro X lesson from Pixel Film Studios.
When using Pixel Film Studios themes and generators, users will need to fill drop-zones, then manipulate images or videos within the drop-zone space allotted.
In this example, we will show you how to fill a Drop Zone featured in one of Pixel Film Studios theme templates for Final Cut Pro X.
First select a generator containing a Drop-Zone and drag it to the Final Cut Pro X timeline.
Click and drag the edge of the generator to the desired clip duration. For this example, we will make our generator 3 seconds long.
Next find the clip you wish to insert into the Drop Zone from the FCPX media library.
When you find the clip you want… drag it on to the timeline under the generator.
For the next step it will help to have “Snapping“ activated.
Cut your clip to match the length of the generator, activate the trim tool and scrub through the video clip to the desired section.
Drop Zones cannot playback audio, so if you would like the keep the sound from your clip….
hold control on your keyboard and click your clip, then select “detach audio.”
Once everything is lined up perfectly, you need to compound the video clip “by-itself”.
This is a strange but necessary step since the 10.0.6 update to FCPX.
Move the playhead to the first frame of your compound clip and select the generator in the timeline.
Now click the Drop Zone icon in the Inspector window.
Select the video clip as close to the beginning as possible, and click the blue “Apply Clip” button in the FCPX Viewer window.
It is extremely important to follow these steps perfectly or video clips will freeze-up in the during playback.
To reposition or scale your clip within the Drop Zone, you can simply double-click on the drop-zone in the viewer window.
This will activate on-screen controls to scale and position your clip in the space allotted.
Repeat these steps to fill any other drop-zones if necessary.
Once the Compound Clips are in their designated Drop Zones,
you can discard them by deleting or disabling them in the timeline by pressing “V” on your keyboard.
This process works for videos as well as images.
If you want use an image with transparency such as a company logo…. use a P.N.G. 24 file with transparency activated when saving in photoshop.
